I took a few days off to help Warren get started with the siding. Just wanted to post a quick photo to show our progress. I’ll update with more details later this week.

Um, doesn’t one usually start at the bottom with lapped siding? What kind are you installing and how?
Oh no, did read the instructions upside down?!
No, this is the porch side of the house. We’re using a lift, not scaffolding, and wanted to be able to use the lift to access the area above the porch roof. Now we can frame out the porch in a few weeks and continue the siding under the porch. More details later today.
You so smaaaht ….
I was wondering the same thing about your siding.
This picture really emphasizes the slope of the hill. The house could be a ski chalet.
We could ski out the basement door and down the driveway. Jill thinks it would be a double diamond.
really beautiful!
I like the color
Hi Larry,
As previous comments mention, usually siding is installed from the bottom up. Each successive course overlaps the lower one. Progressing from the top down presents other challenges. How did you install the siding in reverse order? Thanks. – Jim.
Hi Jim. It was installed from the bottom up. We just started halfway up the wall. The first layer is held out with blocks. Later, after we frame out the porch, we’ll replace the blocks with siding. There’s only another layer or two before we hit the porch roof flashing. Make sense?
Larry,
Your explanation is so simple. Until now, I was amazed by the talent it would have taken to install the siding from the top down, starting with the shortest pieces. I was beginning to think you were Houdini. Shucks.
