Our excavator Joe, started working on our leach field and septic tank this week. Warren helped set the elevations and dig test pits to make sure we were clear of all boulders and ledge. Today they dug the hole for the 1,000 gallon septic tank and buried it next to the house. Weather willing, they will be able to dig the trenches and finish the leach field this week.

1,000 gallons is a lot of sh*t ….
Indeed. In fact, according to an online source (go ahead, I dare you to search for it), 1 person can generate 493.3 gallons of poop and urine a year (on average). So two people should put a pretty good dent in 1,000 gallons. Not to mention the additional water from flushing the toilet, bath water, shower water, sink and clothes washer water.
Hi Larry,
In the picture looking up the hill, you have 4 Big “O” pipes, a white pipe and the distribution box. I assume the big “O” is for footing drainage. What is the white pipe’s purpose?

Hi Jim,
Are you referring to the distribution box pic? There is a random piece of pvc pipe sitting in the dirt to the left of the distribution box. It’s not connected to anything. It’s now in the junk pile. I should have cleaned up before taking the pic. And yes, the large black drainage pipes on the left are for the footing drains and cistern overflow.
Thanks Larry. Mystery solved. – Jim
